Recipes & Dieting Tips: Sweets & Snacks


If you want, every now and then, to allow yourself a guilty pleasure - the key is portion control & moderation. The below list of snacks is not intended to give you a green light to over-indulge, but is perhaps a healthier alternative to the fattening dessert.

Pop-corn (Orville Redenbacher's Gourmet Mircowavable popcorn):

- Smart Pop Kettle Korn

- 1/2 measured cup (~ 2 points)

Vegetable sticks: (1 cup = 2 points)

Celery

Carrots

String beans

Snow peas

Pickles

Sweet meal: (2 points each)

a) 1/4 cup low fat cottage cheese mixed with cucumbers & scallions(salt to taste).

b) 2 tbsp. non-fat sour cream mixed with 1/2 cup strawberries/blueberries and

sprinkled with Stevia.

c) 1/4 cup low fat cottage cheese with 1/2 cantaloupe or sliced strawberries.

Rice Cake: (Quaker Oats)

(1 piece only=2 points):

a) Caramel Corn

b) White Chedder

c) Chocolate crunch

d) Apple cinnamon

e) Butter popped corn

Sugar Free - Ice Popsciles (=1 point)

On rare occasion:

1 teaspoon of 'light' whip cream with sprinkles ('Fat Free Reddi-wip' - 5 calories)

Drink snacks:

a) Blend: kale, parsely, celery, lemon, ginger, 1/2 apple, +/- cayenne pepper

b) Diet Snapple raspberry with frozen strawberry in blender

Baked Apple cooked with Splenda/Stevia or 1/2 can of diet Coke (~2.5 points)
