Diet Diary & Portion Control

Accountability and Portion control are 2 key elements to healthy eating.

Keeping a written diary can help you to accomplish both of these goals.

 

Those who keep daily food diaries tend to eat less, eat healthier food, lose twice as much weight, and are more likely to keep off their weight than those who do not keep food diaries.

 

In a food diary, you should document what you are eating, how much you are eating, and when you are eating.

 

It’s simple:

  1. Write down each food item or beverage you eat right away…whether it is for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or snacks.

  2. Try to be specific with quantities & serving size.  Don’t eye ball…measure portions to ensure you are not eating more than you should using measuring cups, tablespoons, or even the palm of your hand (for measuring portion size of meat and fish).  Make sure to read the serving size on containers and measure accordingly.

  3. Don’t forget to jot down any beverages, including alcohol.

  4. You can use our 20 point system to tract the total points you eat in a day.
